We are looking for our next Librarian to join our team at Waikeria Prison.  Previous experience as a Librarian is not essential however a passion for working with people to grow and develop a love for books and learning is a must.  You will provide resources for constructive use of leisure time, support educational initiatives and open pathways for reintegration and rehabilitation through our resources. 

Waikeria Prison provides library services directly to those in our care – it is a constantly changing environment so you need to be flexible, adaptable and be open to sharing your knowledge with a variety of people at various stages on their journey.  You will be responsible for:

• Overseeing the prison library services and resources
• Engaging with those in our care of all ages and learning levels
• Maintaining the function of the library space/s, including sourcing and updating resources and keeping it modern
• Being creative in a unique environment, engaging with new users and supporting any needs associated with learning and education
• Overseeing the issuing and returns process on site
• Deliver books via trolley to people in units across the site and discuss their reading needs
• Engage with external stakeholders who donate books to the site

You won't necessarily be an experienced Librarian, however you will have a passion for books and the experiences they can open an individual up to.  You will be proactive in nature and quick to think outside the square when it comes to engaging with people with varying literacy levels across diverse cultural needs and expectations.
