Job Description

Job description

Requisition ID:  788822

At EY, you’ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you. And we’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all.

Where do you start if you want to change the world?

 The opportunity

We are looking for two litigation focused legal counsels to join the Litigation Practice Group within the General Counsel’s Office.

Our legal team operates as a globally integrated function and supports our business by serving as trusted advisors to the EY community through the delivery of the highest quality, proactive and commercial legal advice.

These roles are offered on a permanent full-time basis (we will also consider part-time working arrangements) and can be based in any one of our offices in Australia.

 Your key responsibilities

  • Managing and advising on a range of disputes and litigated matters
  • Managing contentious investigations and enquiries by Australian regulators
  • Briefing and instructing external solicitors, barristers and internal and external experts
  • Attending mediations and settlement conferences
  • Instructing and assisting in preparation for hearings
  • Liaising with and reporting to a wide variety of stakeholders including EY’s executive, global GCO colleagues and insurers
  • Responding to and advising on orders for document production

 Skills and attributes for success

  • Ability to provide strategic commercial advice to a range of stakeholders within the Firm
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and drafting skills
  • Experience in managing large scale commercial disputes
  • Creative thinker and pragmatic problem solver
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as make a valuable contribution as part of a team

To qualify for this role, you should have

  • At least 5 years’ post admission experience gained in a top or leading mid-tier firm and/or in-house experience
  • A current and unrestricted Australian practising certificate
  • Experience in professional negligence
  • A flexible, proactive approach and a positive outlook

What we offer

  • Success as defined by you: We’ll provide the tools and flexibility, so you can make a meaningful impact, your way
  • Continuous learning: personalised career development including coaching, experiences, and formal learning so you’ll develop the mindset and skills you’ll need to thrive in the future
  • Diverse and inclusive culture: You’ll be embraced for who you are and empowered to use your voice to help others find theirs.

At EY, you’ll be rewarded and recognised based on your performance and our comprehensive benefits package can be tailored to your individual needs.

We hold a collective commitment to foster an environment where all differences are valued and respected, practices are equitable, and everyone experiences a sense of belonging. If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process in order to equitably participate, we encourage you to advise us at the time of application via contactrecruitment@au.ey.com or  phone +61 3 8650 7788 (option 4).

We understand the importance of social distancing at this time so our recruitment and onboarding process may be managed virtually so we can continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of EY people, clients, guests, and the broader public.

The exceptional EY experience. It’s yours to build.

The preferred applicant will be subject to employment screening by EY or by their external third-party provider.
