 He angitÅ«tanga: About the Role

The Waikato River is a significant part of New Zealand's history and for generations sustained tangata whenua, their way of life, and their ability to meet obligations of manaakitanga (hospitality).

The Waikato-Tainui Conservation Accord recognises that Waikato-Tainui have a special relationship with the Waikato River, and we are committed in working together to ensure mana whakahaere is recognised and that mana o te awa is provided for through a five-yar Implementation Plan.

Your role is to ensure implementation of the mahi from the Implementation Plan, centred under three Pou: Restoration, Protection and Capability is delivered. 

The work will include maintaining effective relationships with Waikato-Tainui, planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on progress, communicating and collaborating across Te Papa Atawhai boundaries and functions to ensure consistency of implementation across the settlement rohe and being an integral advisor to the Operations Manager and part of the district leadership team.

Driven by your experience of working in collaborative environments, this role will have a strong focus on engagement, relationship management and communication.

To be successful in this role you need to have:

  • A commitment to give effect to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and uphold the principles of the Kiingitanga and Waikatotanga
  • An understanding of the Waikato Tainui Settlement in relation to the Waikato River and the importance of protecting the integrity of the Waikato River itself
  • Confidence to represent the values and principles of both Te Papa Atawhai and Waikato-Tainui in public forums
  • A relevant qualification or significant skills in project management, complimented with business writing and communication skills
  • Excellent people skills and a strong drive for results through collaboration proven through your ability to establish networks that deliver on mutual outcomes
  • Delivery focus to get the job done
  • Ability to use, apply or learn systems and processes in a large business or government agency environment
  • Understand the work of Te Papa Atawhai and how it contributes to New Zealand's future sustainability
