We are a brand new Japanese restaurant to be opened in Queenstown’s town centre soon. We are looking for two full-time Chefs to join our culinary team and prepare delicious plates for our guests. To be successful in this role, you should have strong knowledge of Japanese cuisine and are able to work with an attention to detail to fulfill all orders within quality standards. Ultimately, you will help us establish our reputation as the Japanese restaurant of choice in Queenstown and increase our clientele.

 Primary duties and responsibilities:

• Prepare food based on recipes and techniques and with superb attention to detail and consistency

• Prepare appetizers, soups and salads that are close to the philosophy of Japanese cuisine

• Create high-quality sushi including cooking rice, rolling sushi, temperature recording, cutting and packaging for take-out preparation

• Monitor taste and quality control of all food production

• Maintain clean and organized workstation with practicing safe and sanitary food handling at all times

• Estimate food requirements and control serving portions, eliminate waste and leftovers

• Update menu items based on seasonality and customers’ preferences 

 What we want from you:

• Minimum 3 years experience as a chef at Japanese cuisine restaurant

• Strong knowledge of Japanese ingredients and fish fabrication techniques   

• Knowledge of various sushi types and sushi-rolling techniques

• Knowledge of sushi preparation, proper fish handling 

• Excellent knife skills

• Ability to work both fast and accurately

• Availability to work during business hours, including weekends and evenings

• Flexibility to take on various shifts
