Interim SMCR Certification Manager – maternity cover contract

Aviva is keen to secure the talents of an experienced Governance / Regulatory Affairs professional who has gained recent exposure to working on the Senior Manager and Certification Regime (SMCR). This is a maternity cover contract, so we are looking for candidates who are available to commit to a 12-month contract, and can start their next role by end of November.

This position is a fantastic opportunity to join our newly established SMCR office and will involve extensive stakeholder engagement and management tasks relating to the Certification Regime.

Ultimately the SMCR Certification Manager will have accountability for the ensuring compliance with all aspects of the Certification Regime and ensuring processes and controls are operating effectively. 

The role will be aligned to either our London or York office 3 days per week, plus the chosen candidates will also benefit from Aviva’s smart working arrangements (i.e. home working 2 days per work)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end process for certification and de-certification, including annual re-certification.

• Deliver training on all aspects of the certification regime.

• Accountable for a central record of certified individuals, both internally and on the FCA’s Directory for the relevant business areas.

• Leads the process for the initial and annual fitness and propriety assessments for certified individuals.

• Accountable for the regulatory referencing process for the certified population.

• Responsible for ensuring that the SMCR certification regime processes and controls operated by the team are operating effectively, tested and recorded.

• Lead the required regulatory and internal reporting required for the certification regime.

Skills & Experience required

• Extensive regulatory expertise within Insurance and/or Financial Services, with demonstrable knowledge of the SMCR regime and certification requirements

• Prior experience of working in a large, global organisation

• Proven track record in the management of compliance on a large scale and across a diverse range of activities

• A successful record of building personal credibility and managing relationships with key decision-makers.

• Experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements as well as with interpreting and delivering regulatory change

• Excellent communication skills matched with strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Strong business acumen as well as a proactive, can-do attitude

• Able to work collaboratively across teams, with the ability to balance several conflicting priorities and respond proactively as priorities change

• Ability to commit to a contract role and start a new position by end of November.
