What will you do at Ciena?

Our team defines and executes on the testing strategy to fully exercise all photonic system features by integrating the software on the hardware to ensure it works as expected and can be used & evaluated in more detail by other teams.

In this role you will set up optical transport systems in our lab and test out different software features of the platform, looking for any problems before we release the product to our customers. As your career progresses, there will be increasing levels of testing responsibilities and potential customer interactions. The work is very fast paced and varied and involves working with many other teams and other Ciena products.

Responsibilities

Generate test plans and perform end to end software system testing of new software and hardware features, including system performance, scalability, repeatability, adaptability & test for failure.

Present results to internal teams for review and discussion.

Raise tickets for issues found and work with the relevant teams to fix them.

Learn customer use cases and deployment scenarios.

Contribute to the development, implementation of test coverage, automation, validation, and documentation to deliver high quality and easy-to-use products.

Work in an agile development environment, participate in sprint activities to plan and produce high quality deliverables in rapid cycle and support activities across scrums.

Engage engineering teams, product line managers and product owners to transform high-level requirements into optimized test coverage.

Participate in group design meetings and internal brainstorming discussions to discuss solutions to problems or ideas for new features

Required Skills / Experience

Experience in both manual and automated testing environments.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with software solutions in general.

Excellent written (documentation) and interpersonal communication skills.

Strong abilities to work as part of a team or independently with little supervision.

Strong abilities to rapidly learn new complex technological concepts and apply knowledge in daily activities.

A proactive self-starter with a high degree of confidence and commitment

Flexibility is an asset as responsibilities can change from time to time depending on the priority of the team and company.

Familiar with the principles of fiber optic communication systems and optical components is an asset.

Experience

Experience with optical lab test equipment and measurement techniques through coursework/labs or co-op placement.

Ability to automate test cases (e.g. writing Python scripts) and post process data.

Experience with Linux would be an asset.

Bachelors degree in an computer science, electrical engineering or physics degree or a related discipline.
