About the Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for 6 guides to join our team at Government House Sydney on a casual basis.

Reporting into the Operations Coordinator, the Guide is the first point of contact for all visitors attending the house for tours and other public related activities and assists in acting as support for functions and events. The guide welcomes visitors and leads tours or other interactions to ensure a high quality customer service experience is delivered, enabling visitors to learn about the history and activities of Government House Sydney and the Governor of New South Wales.


To be successful in this role you will be responsible for:

  • Providing excellent customer service and high quality communication to a range of visitors including the issuing of admission tickets, maintaining visitor admission details via the database and coordinating the tour booking program.
  • Conducting guided tours, special activity programs and interpretation of the Government House Sydney site to various groups (including school groups).
  • Carrying out housekeeping, cleaning, minor maintenance and assist in the set up for functions and events including the moving of household furniture and equipment as required by house operations.
  • Monitoring and controlling visitor movement throughout the site to ensure safety and security and assist with the supervision and management of functions as required.

About the Team

Government House Sydney, the residence and the seat of administration of the Governor of New South Wales – the oldest statutory office in Australia - is staffed by employees of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC).  

Collectively, the five functional areas (Protocol, Household, Estate Management, Communications and Secretariat) ensure that every aspect of the Governor’s and spouse’s diaries of official engagements and liaison with the community is appropriately coordinated, managed and planned; that the official residence is suitably maintained; that the administrative arm of the organisation operates in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines; and that the buildings, contents and grounds are managed and presented to the highest standard.

 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have a good knowledge of Australian History and the ability to relay this information in an informative and enjoyable manner to a wide audience.
  • Be customer orientated and have the ability to perform in VIP surroundings.
  • Possess a valid NSW Working with Children check.
