Job Description

What you will do

Your key focus will be on managing, monitoring and controlling data, services and products contained in the Geographical Information System (GIS) on behalf of Defence Estate and Infrastructure. This role is unique due the variety and scope of projects you could be working on to support Defence Estate and Infrastructure.

This role focuses on:

  • Providing accurate, up to date asset related data to the property group and relevant key stakeholders;
  • Developing, integrating and maintaining spatial, geographic and textual computer applications used by the NZDF;
  • Information insights and visualising opportunities for continuous business improvements;
  • Ensuring NZDF is meeting their legislative and regulatory obligations related to estate and infrastructure; and
  • Creating and designing mobile applications for empower users to manage their own solutions.

What we need

You will have 5 years practical experience as a GIS Analyst with expertise in managing geographical information and utilising imagery software suites. In particular, you will experience creating custom GIS solutions to solve problems and minimise risks.

You will also have:

  • Technical skills operating ArcGIS Online, and experience with CAD and integration of GIS with SAP;
  • Excellent project management skills, problem solving abilities and attention to detail;
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to liaise with a wide and diverse target audience;
  • Self-motivation to be able to effectively organised and manage your own workload; and
  • A tertiary qualification is held in Computer Science or Geographic Information Systems or related studies.

Who we are

Defence Estate and Infrastructure (DEI) is responsible for estate strategy, performance and delivery of fit for purpose and sustainable Defence estate solutions.

DEI's purpose is to develop, maintain and manage land, property and infrastructure assets in order to support NZDF military capabilities and all of government outcomes, through the Defence Estate Regeneration Programme. The Defence estate comprises over 80,000ha of land with infrastructure and buildings. Defence Estate and Infrastructure is gearing up for major reinvestment and recapitalisation work over the coming years.

The purpose of the Defence Estate and Infrastructure DEI is to develop, maintain and manage land and infrastructure assets to support NZDF military capabilities and all of government outcomes.

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
