The Company
We are a thriving NZ owned and operated company specializing in the design and fit-out of new and refurbished early education centres and schools throughout New Zealand.

They have been supplying the Education industry with quality products and services for over 25 years, and in the last 5 years have set up and grown their in-house furniture manufacturing division.

The Role 
Due to continued growth, We have an exciting opportunity for a Furniture & Spatial Designer to take their furniture design to the next level!

This role reports directly to the Sales Manager and involves working closely with the Sales and Consulting team, as well as the Manufacturing, Estimating, and Project Management teams.

We currently use Sketchup Pro for furniture design, spatial modelling and SketchUp plug-ins for HQ rendering and real-time 3D Modelling.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Updating existing furniture designs to allow for new materials or more efficient production methods
  • Creating new furniture designs, either for us publicly available range, or custom furniture for specific projects and clients.
  • Researching and understanding client needs, including educational philosophies and pedagogies, in order to inform furniture design.
  • Following we spatial design system create furniture and furnishing layouts for early childhood centres, kindergartens, and schools.
  • Export materials lists and relevant details from project and furniture models to assist the estimating and quoting of projects and custom furniture requirements.
  • Research and sourcing of new materials.
  • Organise & maintain a virtual furniture library.
  • Working closely with manufacturing and procurement teams to ensure all new designs are ‘buildable’ and can be delivered in a timeframe and budget level that suits each client.

What we are looking for:  

  • Completed, or at least 3 years into, a relevant design Degree. Ideally Furniture Design & Making.
  • Salary negotiable if candidate has more than 4 years workplace experience. 
  • Proven experience in furniture design, and ideally, industrial design. 
  • High proficiency & experience in Sketchup & compatible rendering software
