Your role
With the support of your team, you will :
- Advise the Vice-President, Taxation on managing risks and opportunities related to commodity taxes :
- Act as an expert advisor to the Bank and its subsidiaries in Canada to ensure their compliance with federal and provincial legislation
- Offer strategic advice on acquisition transactions and other restructurings/reorganizations
- Advise the business units to ensure their compliance with laws pertaining to consumption taxes while proposing value-added approaches/strategies
- Ensure ongoing legislative and regulatory monitoring with regard to commodity taxes, analyze the impact of any developments on the Bank and proactively communicate recommendations to the business sectors and stakeholders concerned
- Participate actively in improving processes by making suggestions and implementing solutions intended to mitigate financial risks associated with regulatory requirements
- Proactively manage tax audits and preapproval requests and contribute to maintaining a collaborative, professional relationship with tax authorities
- Work closely with the Accounting Department on all issues and projects related to declaring, collecting or paying commodity taxes
- Ensure appropriate document management for tax files

Required skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Accounting designation CPA) or Law
- Master’s degree in Taxation or graduate diploma in Taxation or completed In-Depth Tax Course on GST/HST from CPA Canada
- At least 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in the field of consumption taxes
- Management experience and leadership and coaching skills
- Excellent proficiency in Excel, the MS Office suite and other application software (such as TaxPrep Form)
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Strong team spirit and ability to collaborate effectively
- Strong ability to analyze and summarize information
- Rigour, diligence and initiative
- Strong ability to manage many projects at once and meet deadlines
- Bilingualism spoken and written, (English/French) is essential because you’ll regularly do business with partners across Canada
