Job Description
Role:
Century is looking for a motivated and experienced Research Associate or Sr. Research Associate to advance the growing and promising field of cell therapy to treat cancer. She/he will actively participate in conducting in vivo experiments ranging from early-stage discovery to late-stage preclinical studies. The ideal candidate will have experience with cell therapy approaches and familiarity with standard immunological lab techniques related to immuno-oncology. She/He will work closely with scientists within the group and collaborate with other functional groups at different Century sites to achieve company-aligned goals. This position is based in our Hamilton, Ontario laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Independently execute oncology in vivo studies, in accordance with Ethical Committee protocols
- Manage multiple experiments simultaneously
- Maintain tissue culture or human tumor cells
- Prepare, collect, and process biological samples such as peripheral blood and splenocytes
- Maintain accurate research records and deliver scientific presentations and reports internally to interdisciplinary teams
- Liaise with vivarium facility staff
- Contribute to general laboratory maintenance
- Interact with off-site research teams on program-specific activities
- Foster a collaborative and scientifically rigorous team culture
Qualifications:
- Non-PhD. position
- Senior Research Associate: BSc. in a biological sciences field with 3+ years of experience, or MSc. in a relevant field with 1+ years of experience
- Research Associate: BSc. in a biological sciences field with 1+ years of experience, or a MSc. in a relevant field
- Industry experience preferred
- Knowledge of in vivo oncology preclinical model design, execution, and evaluation
- Hands-on experience with tumor xenograft studies, ideally with CNS cancers
- Knowledge of ex vivo analysis endpoints and methodology
- Experience with optical imaging modalities
- Highly proficient and independent in the lab
Requirements:
- Experience with small animal dosing and/or surgeries, health monitoring, and data collection
- Ability to work independently, be pro-active, remain organized, and conduct/prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced start-up environment
- Open-minded and risk-tolerant; humble and not afraid to push and be challenged
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- High scientific integrity committed to ethics and scientific rigor
