Yumbah Aquaculture is seeking to be Australia’s leading shellfish aquaculture company and as such is diversifying and growing quickly. Our business today comprises operations in Tasmania, Victoria, and South Australia, farming abalone, oysters, and mussels for both the domestic and international consumer markets, as well as oyster, spat for the Tasmanian and South Australian oyster industry.
With our exciting growth trajectory, we are looking for an experienced Head of Operations for the management of our abalone farms. The role will be based in Adelaide, South Australia.
This is an Executive role that requires an expert in abalone farming and leadership. The position will report to the CEO, delivering leadership across the business effectively engaging with the Executive Team, and expanding leadership to drive growth, and profitability and support the business into a listed company.
The key areas of focus for the role are:
• Performing and supervising engineering work related to the use and development of aquaculture and abalone management incorporating systems and operational excellence. • To supervise engineering work related to the use and development of agricultural land, buildings, machines, and equipment. Registration or licensing may be required. • To oversee the abalone farm management teams to drive production to agreed targets aligned to sales and marketing plan • To identify and implement productivity improvements across the farming environment • To work with the Supply Chain team to develop optimisation scenarios for the business, identifying constraints and strategies to manage • Ensure an effective accountability within the farm management team by establishment of KPI’s, benchmarking of performance and identification of levers when events cause a deviation from plan • Ensure compliance with all farming regulatory requirements, certification standards and creating a sustainable farming culture • Identify and explore automation initiatives to lead Yumbah into the next era of abalone farming. Specific tasks for this role include Farm optimization management, Future farming, Production management, Sustainability, Growth support.
The successful candidate will have at least an undergraduate degree in science majoring in marine/aquaculture and at least ten successful years of experience working within abalone and aquaculture and managing large teams.
