What is the opportunity?
As a Data Product Owner within the Chief Data Office (CDO), you will lead Data Product development policies, objectives, and initiatives specifically for Climate Data Products. You will support a variety of CDO related projects by enabling and accelerating the build and deployment of cross-LOB / enterprise rich data assets in partnership with LOBs, IT, Climate and many teams to create value for the organization. The role of Director Data Product Owner fills a critical product management and leadership requirement, and will help ensure success of our CDO Initiatives to deliver in a timely manner the most impactful changes, while mitigating risk exposure. This role is a key contributor in ensuring data management, quality, governance with integrity, accuracy and completeness across products.

What will you do?
Enterprise Data Product Vision and Roadmap
- Articulate and co-build consensus around a bold and clear product vision and communicate ‘the story’ effectively to executive leaders and key stakeholders and quantify value to RBC
- Define the end-to-end product strategy in coordination with key stakeholders (e.g., Climate Strategy & Governance (CS&G), T&O Strategy, Line of Business data leads, Data Management Office, Chief Data Office)
- Identify opportunities to standardize, reuse, extend, innovate and merge existing products
Enterprise Data Product Backlog prioritization and day to day execution
- Own the backlog of product features and ensure it is aligned with the prioritization of use cases for onboarding, and manage backlog effectively to ensure it is up-to-date
- Participate and interact with key partners at forums, committees, squads and mediums impacting data to ensure appropriate collaboration, data management and risk management during execution
‘Centre of gravity’ for the delivery squad
- Play a key role in building out a high-performing team/squad that works effectively in an Agile context (e.g., data scientists, data engineers, Enterprise SMEs, LOB data leads, etc.)
- Provide actionable feedback to squad members with ability to invest and meaningfully contribute to their growth (without formal reporting line)
- Lead design discussions with key stakeholders involved in deliver
Data Management
- Utilize the enterprise data governance framework incorporating polices, standards, governance metrics, procedures, associated tools, and influence data architecture to increase data management
- Ensures high data quality controls and integrity to support the availability of accurate, dependable, understandable, and timely information throughout the enterprise
- Takes the lead in turning quality control metadata sets into readily available data catalogs and integrating metadata practice with data quality control
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- 7+ years of experience in product, data, risk management, data management and/or business.
- Relevant experience with data, data management, data quality principles, and/or data control design.
- Undergraduate degree or Equivalent in a numerical discipline, business administration, finance or a combination.
- Good communications skills, verbal and written.
- Experience working in collaboration with technical counterparts
- Ability to work with agile methodology including setting product vision, building and maintaining backlogs, constructing release plans and defining product performance metrics
- Works strategically, stretching beyond traditional information management practices, leveraging industry leading and innovative approaches to solving data challenges
- Experience in product management, including coordinating across functions and units, managing diverse teams and partners, exercising influence, and understanding product needs.

- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in times of stress.
- Ability to analyze and comprehend complex data products, reporting and data related issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of data, processes, data domain and RBC’s businesses is an asset
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g. OSFI, Climate risk, Data Policies)
- Knowledge of SQL, Python, Hadoop, Tableau etc.
- Understanding of Business and Climate Strategy; formal training/education and relevant working experiences in ESG, Climate, Live Sciences, Sustainability, Geography or Environment is an asset
