Mō te tÅ«nga | About the role

Our Family Homes are places of safety where children and young people can get on with life, while we work with families to find them a permanent loving home, either with their whānau or in their community.  Our casual Family Home Relievers form part of a casual pool of staff that provides care and support for tamariki and rangatahi within a family home.  You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, caring and supportive environment. 

Casual Family Home Relievers at Oranga Tamariki carry out a variety of tasks which can include:

  • Running the family home, and/or supporting Caregivers in the day-to-day running of the family home
  • Day to day care of and providing emotional support to children and young people
  • Meal preparation

 

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

To work as a Family Home Reliever, you will need to:

  • Meet the Children' Act safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements (full police check etc.)
  • Have a full clean New Zealand drivers' licence
  • Have a sound understanding of Tikanga Maori
  • Demonstrate successful experience working alongside children and young people with challenging behaviours
  • Show experience in caregiving, community work, or working with young people
  • A high level of resilience and motivation
  • Be a strong team player and positive role model
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgement, with an ability to 'think on your feet'
  • Have an understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
