Support key strategic external communications strategies to enable business success in this newly created role

This private sector company are looking for a passionate External Relations Lead to help deliver an effective government relations and media strategy in Wellington as well as building out and developing strong stakeholder relationships. This is a great opportunity for someone that has come from a public sector landscape who really wants to make a difference and add to the strategic direction of this well known business.

Your new role

In this position you will be responsible for protecting and enhancing the reputation of the business by building and developing relationships with key government officials and advisors, the media and industry bodies. You will also be responsible for:

• Identifying and managing the impact of potential reputational crises and issues
• Supporting executive and leaders in dealing with the media, often on complex and legally sensitive issues
• Supporting the development of high quality corporate communications materials
• Support the delivery and strategy of government relations strategy and initiative

What you'll need to succeed

This position would suit someone who is looking to take the next step in their PR, communications or media facing career. With the role being newly formed there is an opportunity to work along the External Relations Manager and determine specific responsibilities based on the individuals background. Main requirements:

• Experience and understanding of machinery of government
• Ability to interpret complex, technical details and communicate simply with a focus on Plain English
• Experience with reputation and crisis management or communications
• An interest in politics or an understanding of policy development would be highly regarded
