An exciting opportunity has come up to work in our specialised Child and Family Unit. The Child and Family unit (CFU) is a 18 -bed child and adolescent mental health inpatient unit working with young people from 0-18 years and their families. We are one of only three specialist inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service units in the country serving a very large region with strong commitment to collaboration between young person, family, staff, and other services. We also have a 3-bed Mother and Baby Unit, which is the second only in New Zealand. The unit is situated on the 1st Floor of Starship Children's Health, which is part of Auckland City Hospital

 As a Mental Health Assistant in CFU you will be expected to work across all wards under the supervision of Registered Nurses while providing quality care to service users who are experiencing distress.  The care you provide will include bathing and showering service users, also helping serviced users at meal times and on occasion escorting service users to appointments.  In addition you will be expected to support service users participate in group activities such as team sports, and arts and crafts activities.  The MHA is a key member of the team and is expected to undertake tasks that contribute to the general tidiness and hygiene of the ward.

 This role requires ability to work directly with service users and their families. To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate high levels of personal integrity, flexibility, with an ability to work closely with service users and their families while under supervision of a Registered nurse.  It is imperative you have an ability to work in a team, and have an understanding of mental illness and its effects on service users and their families. Fluency in both written and verbal English is essential.
