St Joseph's Nudgee College (Est. 1891) is a Catholic Boys' Day and Boarding school in the Edmund Rice tradition for Years 5-12, with a student population of 1700. The College sits on 136 acres with numerous buildings and ovals.
Role
The Events General Labourer (Operations) works within the Property & Services team to ensure timely and accurate set ups for College events and activities, from both internal and external hire requests. Delivers items to various locations on campus to aid other teams to conduct their work. The key requirements of this hands-on position are physical capability to lift heavy items, and work as part of a team or independently.
Key Responsibilities
Events and Functions setup.
- Assist the Operations Coordinator in setting up and packing down functions, activities and events.
- Clean, collect and move around the campus:
- Chairs, tables, desks & other furniture
- Event furniture & equipment
- Set up events as per function guidelines and directions.
- Assist in setting up assembly and function hall with a seating capacity of 1800.
- Ensure College vehicles and trailers are packed and loaded correctly for school events and tours.
- Drive College vehicles and trailers around the campus for events.
- Supervise and assist labour hire if necessary.
- Collecting general garbage bins and industrial bin, up to 1100L.
- Daily maintenance of function equipment:
- refilling gas bottles,
- setting up of marquees, chairs, tables and
- report maintenance issues on equipment.
- Clean and maintain work areas.
- Exercise judgement in performing duties and responsibilities.
- Be aware of and comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and regulations.
Secondary Duties
- Assist other areas of the Property & Services team as required, which may include:
- General labouring work.
- Assist grounds crew as required.
- Cleaning equipment or buildings.
- Delivery of goods around the College.
- Carpark readiness - (bunting, safety cones, signage).
- Carrying out other duties within the range of skills, as directed.
Mandatory Requirements
- Event / function crew experience.
- Manual drivers licence. Experience of driving with a trailer will be desired.
- Obtaining and maintaining a Blue Card prior to commencement of employment. Employment at the College is subject to Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian legislation.
- Reach & forklift licence.
- Undertake a pre-start ‘Fitness for work Assessment’.
- Comply with Government COVID vaccination and health requirements and guidelines.

- Substantial knowledge of, and experience in, events / function space.
- Demonstrated excellence in working under pressure in collaboration with others in a team.
- Demonstrated focus on producing high quality work.
- Be professionally competent, ensuring day-to-day behaviours and personal presentation reflect the school values and expectations.
- Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Clear communication skills which contribute to successful outcomes.
- Demonstrate commitment to goals and aims of Catholic education in the tradition of Edmund Rice.
Employment Conditions
- This position is a Full Time permanent role.
- Full PPE will be provided.
- The successful candidate must have a valid Working with Children Blue Card before they start.
- Employment conditions are in line with the Catholic Employing Authorities Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.
