Job Description

  • Aviva UK is now looking to bring on a Risk and Compliance Specialist to join our “UK Branch” team. This person will support our review, development and reporting of management information for European Personal Lines business across finance, underwriting, pricing, claims, product governance, outsourcing, delegated authority arrangements, financial crime, policy data and quality assurance.

We’re looking for someone aware of regulatory requirements for both Europe and the UK – they will have active involvement in reviewing of the UK Branch’s risk and governance performance and working closely with Aviva’s Irish, European and UK offices.

We believe this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the dynamics of post Brexit regulations and is interested in being a key part of a crucial team. This individual will have oversight across all the European reporting and that will only increase as we plan to tackle more and more EEA business.

Aviva uses “smart-working”, and the person in this role can be based anywhere in the UK, as long as they are comfortable regularly travelling to our offices 2/3 times a week.

    The role’s duties & responsibilities:

    • Capture and check all MI for the EU regulatory and operational requirements for Personal Lines business

    • Understand what EU operational and regulatory requirements impact the business the most and how these should be embedded, supervised and reported on - especially local general good requirements by territory and line of business

    • Work closely with 2nd line risk and governance to identify and actively pursue opportunities to improve and expand information provided across the relevant lines of business

    • Managing relationships with key internal partners in order to identify areas of improvement

    • Liaise with the Irish Head office and our Multinational team in relation to all matters regarding Freedom of Services

    • Assist in embedding and monitoring of the UK Branch operating model with regards to Personal Lines

    Skills & experiences required:

    • Significant and robust experience in European risk and governance/compliance for Personal Lines insurance products, ideally including delegated underwriting authorities

    • Strong knowledge of Freedom of Services and Freedom of Establishment, EU Insurance Directives and Insurance Distribution Directives

    • Good knowledge of governance standards, including outsourcing, product and risk & control systems

    • Awareness of CBI, PRA and FCA regulatory frameworks would be beneficial

    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to communicate at senior management level

    • A broad understanding of the insurance industry, business and competitor activity

    • A track record of translating knowledge and experience into recommendations to add new value to the business

    • Ability to coach and guide less experienced colleagues in freedom of services matters

    • Highly motivated and collaborative teammate – background of taking ownership with a reputation for professional pride and integrity

What will you get for this role?

    • A salary up to £98,000 depending on location, skills, experience and qualifications

    • Generous defined contribution pension scheme

    • Annual performance related bonus and pay review

    • Holiday allowance of 29 days plus bank holidays and the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days

    • Up to 40% discount for some Aviva products through “My Aviva Extras” plus discounts for Friends and Family (some exclusions apply)

    • Excellent range of flexible benefits to include a matching share save scheme

    Working at Aviva

At Aviva, we’re people with a purpose. To be with you today, for a better tomorrow.

We bring this to life by ensuring managing risk is at the heart of the way we all work. We love people who do the right thing for our customers, and our colleagues. We want people who speak up, who take ownership, and who make good decisions.

The way we do this is important too, we’re all about our people – that’s you – so we can be pretty flexible. If you want to work from home some of the time or change your hours so you can pick up your kids or care for someone in your family, we’re very open to that. In fact, we don’t advertise roles as either part or full time, because we know each person has different needs, just as each business area has different needs. So, it’s up to you to discuss working hours during your interview.

We care deeply about being inclusive and that means we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We want our employees to bring their whole self to work and that starts with you.

We interview every disabled applicant* that meets the minimum criteria for the job. Once you’ve applied, please send us a separate email stating that you have a disclosed disability and we’ll make sure we interview you.

We’d love it if you could submit your application online. If you require an alternative method of applying, please give Daniel Hopchet a call on 0121 234 7625 or send an email to Daniel.Hopchet@Aviva.com.

*As defined in The Equality Act 2010*. By ‘minimum criteria’ we mean you should provide us with evidence which demonstrates that you generally meet the level of competence required and have the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential to perform the role.
