Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC is looking for an experienced Director of Payments and Commerce Products and Experience to join our Enterprise Payments team.  This is a newly created position that will lead the vision, strategy, innovation and development of products and experiences Canadian consumers, businesses and merchants will use to pay, to shop and to conduct business.  As part of the Enterprise Payments team, you will work closely with and support key business product owners and leaders across many Payments-related businesses and the Technology teams that bring our product visions to life. With the backing of RBC, you will have the opportunity to create new payments experiences and products that will be used by millions of Canadian consumers and businesses in their daily lives.

What will you do?

  • Take a central leadership role in Defining and Owning Product Vision & Strategy:  Develop a product vision and build into a product strategy; “see around corners” for future trends and build a platform for new and differentiated products and experiences
  • Be the Voice of the Customer:  Obsess over creating market-leading customer experiences; take complex business requirements and objectives and distill into products that resonate with customers’ needs and experiences that users will love
  • Lead and Collaborate with Partners and Stakeholders:  Work alongside business stakeholders, including P&L Product Managers, as well as internal and external technology and delivery partners to execute on Enterprise level payment strategies as well as provide support to accelerate business-specific payment initiatives
  • Help Build and Evolve the Product Management team:  Bring your knowledge and experience of modern product development practices to help build out a team with a culture of research, experimentation and evidence-based decision making in product design and development
  • Learn about and Contribute to strategy and planning of core Payments businesses:  Work with and learn from leaders of some of the biggest payments and banking businesses in Canada; bring an outside-in perspective of market trends and emerging/disruptive technologies
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and support to team mates and cross-functional team members and partners

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • 10+ years of Product Development and Management experience in consumer digital products
  • Proven track record of leading and managing product teams and coaching/mentoring junior product managers
  • Excellent communication skills and sound understanding of modern product development tools; conversant in technical details relevant to the product build and delivery with technology teams
  • Strong collaboration, prioritization and influence skills – ability to work with broad and complex stakeholder groups to get to productive outcomes through influence and collaboration, where the desired outcome is collective success over individual wins
  • Ability to understand and translate business strategy into user requirements into technical scopes
  • Commitment to seeing things through to execution, willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done, no matter the task at hand

Nice to Have:

  • Product experience with a B2C / consumer tech company; previous experience with payments or digital commerce products would be a strong asset
  • A combination of experience working in a start-up, entrepreneurial environment as well as experience in or working with larger corporates would be an asset
  • Software development, technical and architectural design exposure and experience are assets but not mandatory
