Responsibilities Include:
- Be a strong team player that operates as a peer to product management and engineering in defining the customer-centric approach to product development.
- Determine the best research approach to inform product development, which could be a mix of quantitative, qualitative and participatory design methods.
- Provide research leadership to support discovery of core customer journeys, prioritization of pain points to address, and measurement to track improved developer productivity.
- Effectively translate data and insights into strategy and product direction.
- Continually learn, grow, and improve the craft of UX research.
- Attract, retain, develop, and manage a talented team of User Experience Research and Design managers and practitioners
- Set expectations and maintain high standards of quality of the work for the team; demand excellence and encourage craftsmanship.
- Establish trust and build confidence with cross-functional partners and executive leadership (e.g., Product, Engineering, and Product Marketing).
- Clear and succinct communication of insights for peers, partners, and executive leadership to influence strategy, product development and roadmaps.
- Work with other teams (Market Research, Sales, Professional Services) to coordinate strategies and triangulate across sources.
- Excellent at prioritizing work across the product-development lifecycle to maximize impact on the business and the user experience.
- Act as mentor, leader, and coach across the Design team.
- Foster a horizontal and global mindset across Enterprise products, ensuring insights inform the product ecosystem.
- Oversee high quality work in a fast paced, complex environment.
- Manage a high performing team with compassion.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of combined hands-on experience through practice and management of User Experience or Design Research in the business context.
- Degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Anthropology, Sociology, HCI, Humanities, Design, or a related field – or equivalent experience.
- Experience with foundational, formative, and evaluative research methods such as: in-depth interviews, field studies, diaries, projective techniques, focus groups, concept/prototype testing, and surveys.
- Experience and ability to work in a variety of digital-focused design applications like Sketch, Invision, and Illustrator
- Experience creating design systems for enterprise-level experiences
- Familiarity with applied quantitative methods, or mixed methods, strongly preferred
- Spoken about or published in the field of User Experience, Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, Cognitive/Behavioral Sciences, or similar topics
- Experienced at creating and running cross-functional workshops and collaborative design sessions, utilizing multi-method outputs and insights
- Ability to think horizontally and collaborate with teams to create a holistic product experience
- Compelling and confident storyteller
- Flexible by nature and in possession of a great sense of humor
