At Taranaki District Health Board (Taranaki DHB) we serve a population of approximately 124,380 people, of which 19.8% identify as Māori, residing within the geographical area that is described as ‘Paraninihi ki Waitōtara, Waitōtara ki Taipakē’; spanning from the white cliffs of Pukearuhe to the Waitōtara River in Ngā Rauru and from the Waitōtara river to Taipakē which is the most southern point of the Ngā Rauru iwi.

The Pou Mātanga Māori Responsive Workforce Development Specialist is a member of Te Pā Harakeke – Māori Health and Equity Directorate. The role is responsible for:

• providing expert leadership for the Taranaki District Health Board (Taranaki DHB) to achieve Māori workforce proportionality and a culturally competent workforce across the organisation.
• providing leadership and guidance to continuously develop, implement, and refine Tiriti o Waitangi-led and pro-equity approaches to develop a health workforce that understands and is responsive to the needs of Māori
• working across the health and education sectors alongside the Why Ora Team to contribute to achieving deliberate and intentional health workforce development initiatives.

We are looking for:

• Tertiary qualification in related field or equivalent relevant experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a commitment to te reo Māori and tikanga
• Knowledge of national, regional, and local strategies and plans relating to health
• Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with managers, staff, and Board members
• Understands Māori health issues relevant to iwi and Māori in Taranaki Demonstrates ability to be self-managing and directed, use initiative, flexibility, and manaakitanga.
