The position of Data and Information Manager will lead, manage and deliver the data, information, and records management services to the Ministry; and advise on legislative, best practise and other data, Information and Records Management standards to ensure the Ministry can meet these, and it's privacy obligations. The Data and Information Manager will operate data and information systems and support the Ministry in integrating these into daily operations.

In this role, you will do the following:

  • Coordinate the work of IT professionals performing data analysis, computer programming, and IT support to ensure data and information is always available to support the business
  • Ensure the set up and completion of records management tasks, e.g. retention and disposal, migrating records from network drives, preparing records for storage offsite, records appraisal, description and inventories
  • Proactively keep up to date with technology trends, forums and events that could be relevant to this role and keep abreast of the emerging technology that could enhance our Ministry
  • Develop and maintain a Data and Information Management Strategy that will enable the Ministry to deliver its goals and meet compliance obligations
  • Participating positively to planning across the Corporate Services team
  • Champion the consistent use of tools, standards, methods and processes for Data, Information and Records Management across the Ministry
  • Monitor and review service level agreements, systems and processes that ensure effective data, information and records management service delivery
  • Maintain an awareness of Ministry operational requirements to inform data, information and records management planning and management activity
  • Building professional partnerships with external providers to ensure our data and information platforms are fit for purpose
  • Represent the Ministry at government agency meetings and other agreed forums that relate to best practice technology across government.

What you will bring to the role

The Data and Information Manager will be an experienced data, information, and records management professional, with proven ability to work autonomously to support an organisation's Data, Information and Records Management needs.

Specific experience necessary for the position includes the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related field
  • A minimum of four years in an Information and Records Management position
  • Proven working knowledge of best practise and legislative requirements in the area of data, Information and Records Management
  • Experience working in the public sector desirable
  • Good analytical and computer skills, particularly relational database skills, data mining
  • Aptitude to develop positive relationships with, and influence the behaviour of Ministry staff around use of information within the Ministry
  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively with internal and external stakeholders
  • High standard of analytical and computer skills (particularly relational databases)
  • Good ability to liaise between operational and technical staff
  • Exposure to Information Security Standards - AS/NZS27001/2, NZISM, SIGS
