What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Manager, Client Data Management, you will play a key role in developing and executing upon the data management strategy and goals for RBC Capital Markets.

You will support the global management of Client reference data for Capital Markets, ensure data content is fit for purpose and meets the data quality requirements of business consumers, provide robust data analysis and subject matter expertise that supports daily operations and enterprise initiatives and interface with internal and external clients and vendors as they relate to client data management

 

What will you do?

Technical Competencies

  • Analyze large data sets; must possess strong skills in string query languages and Excel
  • Write, design and test algorithms and applications for data analysis & data manipulation using R, Python and other known programming languages. Use technology to collect, analyze and compile data for various operational and reporting purposes.
  • Modify and maintain existing scripts and queries in response to technical issues and changing requirements.

Drive operational effectiveness

  • Provide subject matter expertise within the client data and data management function knowledge domains that support daily operations and enterprise initiatives  
  • Create and automate operational processes to reduce processing time, reduce manual effort and improve data quality
  • Capture, measure, and report metrics on the dimensions of data quality that support business defined objectives
  • Demonstrate strong initiative to produce insightful analysis of business issues and suggest potential solutions/options based on analysis

Communication & Leadership

  • Work collaboratively and build strong relationships with colleagues across RBC Capital Markets
  • Build and mature working relationships with colleagues within the Data Management Office
  • Deliver concise, relevant presentations at the client and book data management team level

 

What you need to succeed?

  • University degree and/or relevant professional designation with a minimum of two years of experience in Python, R and or other programming languages
  • Solid understanding of data management practices
  • 2+ years of data management experience in a similar role within the investment industry
  • Advanced Excel Skills
    • Analyze large data sets using pivot tables and pivot reporting
    • Ability to write and create advanced formulas using VLOOKUP, Arrays, Index and Match functions; debug and audit
    • Build macros using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
    • Ability to structure and present data for reporting using conditional formatting, tables and charting
  • Intermediate SQL skills
    • Understanding and usage of SQL keywords, data types, constraints, pivots, sub queries, logical and comparison operators, and advanced joins (inner, outer) and unions
    • Understanding and usage of update and insertion statements and syntax for altering and creating structures
    • Can generate complex data reports using GROUP BY and aggregate functions
    • Understands SQL concepts of foreign keys, transactions, triggers, and stored procedures
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
