Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Critical Environment Technician, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft\'s online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities

The purpose of this role 

As a  Critical Environment Technician,  you will primarily be overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical equipment within our datacentre sites. You’ll do this while ensuring a safe, secure, and compliant environment, ultimately reducing high-impact and human-error critical environment incidents. You will be a front-line responder for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting, operations and maintenance. Critical Environment Technician provide 24/7 shift coverage which could include 12 hour shifts rotating shifts  

 The Impact You\'ll Be Making  

  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of our Datacenter operations 
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in our Datacenters.  
  • Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical, mechanical, emergency generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center 
  • Troubleshoot of facility and events, perform equipment assets and work order requests 
  • Perform maintenance tasks to including filter changes, HVAC PMs, rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements 
  • Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians 
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures 
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule, and supervise CE audits and compliance verification as needed  
  • Ensure routine reporting to effectively manage and analyze our Power / Temperature / Relative Humidity, and SLA monitoring   
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule, and supervise CE audits and compliance verification as needed 
  • Reduce high-impact and human-error Critical Environment (CE) incidents year over year 

Qualifications

What skills do you need to have?   

There will be many opportunities for you to learn and grow into this role and Microsoft.  

However, to be able to best deliver on the purpose of this role, these are the core skills and experiences you should have on day one:   

  • Proven experience in either a Datacenter or other critical environment facility, working with the operation of building cooling, electrical, mechanical and life safety systems, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and Battery Monitoring Systems (BMS)  
  • OR Associate degree or technical trade certification (e.g., military, TAFE, trade school, University) 
  • Flexibility to work 12 hours shifts work non-business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays 
  • Able to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills.

Background Check Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of Australian Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements. 
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
