Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity at the Wellington High Court with two 6 month Court Registry Officer vacancies in the Civil Jurisdiction.

In this role you will work as part of a team responsible for the successful operation of the High Court. You will liaise with multiple stakeholders who are interacting with the Justice system. This includes being able to communicate confidently with Judges within the courtroom and their chambers, as well as other members of the judiciary, and team members from other Courts.

A Court Registry Officer's duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Court Taking – this is the facilitation of running the court. This includes public speaking by introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Maori), working closely with them in the Courtroom and Chambers, managing jurors and general administration of the court.
  • Customer Service – interacting with customers on any Court-related matter. Customer queries can come in via face to face, phone or email interactions – so you will need to be confident with all methods. 
  • Case management – this involves ensuring files are accurate and up to date. This part of the role involves a large component of high quality data entry.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be:

  • Detail oriented and observant – the Court has many different processes and case information needs to be accurate;
  • Self-aware – our customers are unique and diverse, and you will be confident working, both individually and as a team, across a range of situations;
  • Able to multi-task and adapt to changing situations –some of our processes are repetitive, but you'll be able to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly as the situation dictates;
  • Willing to learn & seek out information – legislation and processes in the Court are always changing and you will need to be able to adapt and take onboard feedback.
  • Resilient – there are times when working in the Court you will be working on high volumes of cases, the content of which may be sensitive in nature. You will need to demonstrate an awareness of your own wellbeing and resilience.

Salary Range per annum: $50,128 to $70,768. Starting salary of the successful candidate(s) will be based on their skills and experience
