Job Description
The successful candidate will have experience working on technology policy issues preferably within a corporate environment and/or experience in another complex policy environment. They will have an insatiable desire to learn more. The successful candidate will work on a broad range of policy issues, as well as support the rest of the team working on all aspects of government, regulatory, and public policy issues that affect innovation and growth in the technology sector and help position Microsoft to succeed.
This position will be based in Australia and the successful candidate will report to the Corporate Affairs Director. They will collaborate closely with other members on the Australia-New Zealand teams and with the larger Microsoft regional CELA team.
Responsibilities
Strategy/Program Management
- Contribute to execution of Microsoft strategies and/or programs related to policy advocacy.
- Support research projects which drive stategy objectives, coordinate budget of team and supports logistical issues.
Subject Matter Expertise and Influence
- Assist in the gathering of data and intelligence information to support the preparation of position papers, policy briefings, presentations, and legislative testimony for legislative action.
- Stay up-to-date on issues relating to public policy and/or geo-political topics.
- Devise and conduct research to advance Microsoft policy agenda.
Representing Microsoft
- Assist with planning, organizing, and/or executing internal/external events by developing content, drafting materials, and co-ordinating logistics.
External Relationships
- Build relationships on behalf of Microsoft at relevant external events and/or partner with leaders to drive relationships; tracks changes in the regulatory environment and/or proposals for changes; maintains open communication with regulatory agencies.
- Supports efforts to advance Public Sector goals.
Internal Collaboration
- Participates in and coordinates intra-group and/or cross-group projects.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field AND 2+ years of work experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.
- OR 5+ years of work experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and strong aptitude for learning.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in technology policy field is highly desired.
- Ability in developing and managing strategic relationships to advocate and influence public/technology policy priorities.
- Ability to work autonomously and with ambiguity will be an asset
