About the role
You'll be part of a friendly and collaborative team who are passionate about revolutionising the customer experience for NZQA and making our information easier to use. You'll work in a well-paced and supportive environment where you take ownership of what you do. We work in an Agile environment on fortnight sprints. You'll get to become expert at transforming content into plain English and communicating to a wide range of people.
As NZQA's Content Writer you will:
- Edit existing web content to plain language and style guide standards
- Create engaging new content from briefs
- Work with members across the team and our customers to plan and test content
- Prepare images for the content management system (CMS), select images by style guide standards
- Upload content into our CMS and Vimeo channel
- Work with subject management experts to make sure content is useful to our customers and accurate
- Make timely decisions on content to cut or keep
- Make sure content is accessible
- Negotiate with others to put our customers needs for plain language content first

Skills and experience
Essential:
- Experience writing and editing web content or a good portfolio of work
- Qualification related to content, such as web content, editing, journalism, UX design
- Very strong attention to detail
- Good research skills, including interviewing people for information
- An organised and flexible working style
- Initiative and ability to work independently
- Good communications skills, including written, verbal and listening skills
- Awareness of te ao MÄori
- Passion for removing barriers to information through plain language
Desirable:
- Experience using a CMS such as Silverstripe
- Photo-editing skills
- Te reo MÄori skills
- Strong understanding of accessible web content
- UX copywriting
- Experience working on an Agile project
- Negotiation skills to make sure our customer needs always come first
