Job Description
Commercial & Pricing Architects lead the development of robust financial analysis for large, complex pursuits. The objective of the role is to:
- Ensure that EY is able to take a compelling commercial vehicle to market
- Articulate the expected financial performance of a strategic engagement
- Understand the implications of identified risks and identify opportunities to achieving the best outcomes for EY and the client.
- Contribute to the development of people, capability, reusable tools and pricing assets, and the embedding of commercial best practice, processes, knowledge and behaviours within the EY.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support upfront qualification of complex strategic pursuits – with particular focus on testing both parties’ value proposition and designing the charging approach for the pursuit.
- Lead/support the design of competitive pricing proposition for strategic pursuits, achieve an appropriate EY commercial return, and manage key risks – working closely with the pursuit leader, solution architect, deal shaper, legal, commercial, negotiations, risk and independence.
- The pricing design will include costing the solution components, development of the Client Business Case, the EY Business Case, a pricing response, contractual pricing documents, addressing client concerns/requirements and mitigating EY risks.
- Using EY’s costing and pricing tools and best practices, the Costing & Pricing Architect will present the pursuit’s client and EY business cases for internal approvals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships – develop and own relationships with pursuit teams, service lines and internal delivery teams
- Support the transfer of the pricing knowledge to the EY delivery team, to ensure the ongoing management of the commercial aspects of contracts.
- Review the financial returns delivered by strategic engagements to ensure the learning is captured as engagements deliver.
- Capture knowledge into EY artefacts that can be used to support strategic pursuits and ensure embedded in EY’s overall approach– eg updated costing and pricing policies, models.
- Develop and run training programmes on pricing pursuits, lessons learned for account, enablement and delivery teams.
- Develop people through effective leadership, coaching and mentoring.
Skills and attributes for success
- Experience of having led or supported complex pricing for clients in EY and/or other organisations, fluency in alternative fee arrangements.
- 5+ years of working in a professional services firm, technology consulting firm, corporate development, finance operations or investment banking
- 2 + years providing costing and pricing services (preferably including experience in Managed Services and outcomes based pricing).
- Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and client service skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with capability to work independently to plan, structure, and execute pursuit activities
- Collaboration skills; working effectively with groups across all levels in EY
- High level of flexibility, drive and ability to work under pressure. Initiative, resourcefulness, creativity
- Attention to detail, continuously producing work of high-quality.
- Comfortable working in unstructured and changing environments.
- Comfortable with financial modelling, expert in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated capabilities in PowerPoint and Word
To qualify for the role you must have
- Bachelor’s degree in a numerical field (Accounting / Statistics / engineering etc.)
- Demonstrable experience of having led and supported complex pricing
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Work experience within professional services firms, global technology service providers, or managed service firms
- Experience designing and presenting internal and external value propositions that clearly articulate the value creation potential of EY’s product, service, solution or transaction
