As part of the Bell Real Estate Services (BRES) team, the primary goal of Facilities Engineering is to ensure the reliability and stability of the existing electrical and mechanical infrastructure while supporting and enabling the growth and advancement of our clients. Facilities Engineering Specialists, with their extensive knowledge in electrical and mechanical systems, support various internal and external stakeholders (Internal and External Clients, Consultants, Contractors, Program Management, Project Management, BRES Operations, etc).
As a Facilities Engineering Support, you will provide assistance as required for projects throughout Atlantic Canada and beyond. Some of the tasks that you may be asked to assist on include:
- Review client-submitted project proposals for technical and operational necessity. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure a strong understanding of actual requirements.
- Conduct site visits to become familiar with existing systems infrastructure and confirm actual field conditions.
- Perform cost-benefit analyses and value engineering to reduce unnecessary waste while minimising risk and maintaining safe and effective infrastructure.
- Develop design intent documentation to implement the necessary solutions to meet our clients requirements.
- Provide technical support to Project Management for complex projects involving electrical and/or mechanical infrastructure.
- Review and provide comments on drawings, specifications, and related documents produced by other organizations to ensure all designs:
- Meet the requirements of the client;
- Adhere to national, provincial, and municipal codes and standards, as well as Bell’s design guidelines;
- Minimise construction costs without sacrificing safety or infrastructure stability;
- Avoid change orders by ensuring designs are sufficiently detailed to describe all necessary work.
- Witness factory tests of major equipment to validate performance and proper functioning prior to delivery, and assist in the commissioning of critical infrastructure.
- Keep track of lessons learned during the course of projects and review with project team at completion to ensure constant process improvement.
- Review specific methods and procedures (SMOP) documents developed by others as related to the safety and efficacy of high risk activities.
- Work with the wider Facilities Engineering team to develop and refine Bell design guidelines and to improve systems integration across the country.
- Recognize system deficiencies and opportunities for infrastructure derisking and implement effective solutions.
- Apply significant knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service to our clients.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Essential:
- Currently pursuing an electrical engineering degree or similar in a cooperative education program.
- Computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs
- Good communication skills
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Positive attitude, initiative, and a desire to learn.
Useful:
- General knowledge of electrical and mechanical buildings systems such as power distribution, lighting, HVAC, fire protection, and backup power systems including generators, transfer switches, and uninterruptible power supplies.
- General knowledge of telecoms systems and of typical data centre infrastructure.
- Understanding of national, provincial, and municipal codes and standards
- Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret technical specifications
- Bilingualism (English/French)

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
