The Pohutukawa Sexual Assault Assessment and Treatment Service (SAATS), based at the Greenlane Clinical Centre, provides a 24/7 specialist medical, forensic and holistic wrap-round service to adults and adolescents of all genders who have been sexually assaulted or abused. The service is made up of a dedicated team of specially trained doctors and nurses committed to providing the highest quality health service that is sensitive, appropriate, accessible and acknowledges social and cultural diversity.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will have a critical role in ensuring we can provide holistic sexual health care support and treatment to victims of abuse and sexual assault in the Greenlane Clinical Centre. 

A day in the life of this position:

  • 16 or 20 hours hours daytime care per week between Monday to Friday 8 am to 6 pm. You will also be part of our after-hours roster and work a minimum of 2 to 3 on-call shifts per month.
  • Leadership, training and support to nurses on the after-hours on-call roster. 
  • Assisting medical staff collecting forensic evidence, performing sexual health assessments including diagnosis and treatment of STI's, provision of contraception. 
  • Collaborative management of sexual assault, sexual health and therapeutic needs.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

Experienced nurses motivated to make a difference to adults and adolescents, who have faced trauma and adversity, and who share our strong values to help strengthen our community are encouraged to apply. In addition:     

  • Registration as a nurse (or eligibility for registration) with NZ Nursing Council
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to improving health outcomes
  • A commitment to biculturalism
  • Demonstration of well-developed communication, critical thinking skills and a commitment to patient-centred care
  • Ideally previous experience working within one or more of the following specialities: sexual and reproductive health care, gynaecology, trauma care, forensic medicine, family violence and/or mental health

We are also interested in hearing from Registered Nurses looking to grow, develop, and gain experience within this speciality.
