As the Category Manager, you will plan and execute strategies to drive sustained sales growth across assigned categories. You are accountable for evaluating, purchasing and pricing products, as well as managing inventory levels and the product lifecycle to ensure the category meets projected sales, margin and profitability objectives. As the Category Manager, you are also responsible for championing the category across the business and partnering with cross-functional teams on key strategies, tactics and projects to deliver on your category goals.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities to improve the business. Periodically scan the market and assess the need for new product and new category opportunities.
  • Develop an annual business strategies, tactics and assortment plans, outlining key insights and related strategies to achieve sales and margin plan. Develop core positioning for the products in the category and communicate them to the broader business.
  • Champion category priorities across the business by working with internal / external partners on key strategies, partnerships, tactics and projects for the category. Work closely with other departments for execution of in-store merchandising, promotions, online marketing initiatives and training of retail staff.
  • Source vendors and maintain positive mutually beneficial relationships. Nurture vendor relationships to drive strong partnership and drive mutual growth. Partner with vendors to obtain incentives and promotional packages to drive competitive pricing in market. Negotiate vendor contracts.
  • Manage the lifecycle of all products in the category. Effectively manage product lifecycle, and develop and execute exit strategies for under-performing, aged, and end of life (EOL) products that mitigate impact to category financials. Manage and maximize revenue and profitability for the assigned category.
  • Conduct pricing analysis to ensure products in the assigned category are always priced competitively.
  • Manage category MDF account, ensuring account is balanced and promotional spend is strategically managed to deliver on core category, pricing and promotional objectives.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in Product or Category Management, preferably in electronics retail.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience in Business and/or Consumer Electronics.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of retail, and accounting/finance.
  • Project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, exceed targets and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Experience in negotiation with vendors/suppliers.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Ability to package and articulate plans, strategies and tactics to senior leadership team.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
