As a carpentry instructor you will be responsible for delivering classroom instruction/courses to enhance the skills of our NZDF carpentry apprentices.
Along with delivery of the pre-prepared syllabus (which you would have helped create), you'll be working alongside other carpentry instructors (both military and civilian) sharing your subject matter expertise to design and develop course content and practical learning activities. You'll also be conducting assessments and reporting on student progress.
As a carpentry instructor you will have the opportunity to manage construction tasks that contribute to the training of our apprentice carpenters. These tasks may require you to travel to various locations within New Zealand..

It is essential that you hold the National Certificate in Carpentry Level 4, and it would be advantageous to hold other trade related certificates. Ideally you will hold a qualification in adult education and training.

The School of Military Engineering (NZ) is an established Government Training Establishment (GTE) with strong connections to the construction industry. The New Zealand Defence Force have a formalised partnership with the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO), which has been in place since 2018. The partnership with BCITO enables apprenticeship and supervisor qualifications to be provided at the school of Military Engineering (NZ). Annually, The School of Military Engineering (NZ) will have up to 40 carpentry apprentices under training.
Training and Doctrine (New Zealand) is the Centre of Excellence for Individual Training in the NZ Army throughout the training continuum. Our purpose is threefold; the provision of foundation, leadership and specific to corps and trade individual warfighting skills and training, the provision of ready and engaged Reserve Infantry Battalions, and the provision of mission specific individual and collective pre-deployment training and evaluation of land force elements for commitment to NZDF operations.
