Job Description

We are looking for a Business Strategy Manager to help shape industry strategy definition and activation for the Industry Solutions division as part of the Growth & Strategy Team, all to fulfill the needs of our customers and to support the mission of Microsoft.

The Industry Solutions division at Microsoft is focused on bringing together the best of Microsoft to power a more impactful, industry-focused customer journey. 

  

Within Industry Solutions, the Growth & Strategy team develops growth strategies founded on customer needs and industry-orientation and drives strategic initiatives involving partner strategy and inorganic moves (acquisitions, alliances, and investments.) 

Responsibilities

Strategy Development: 

Develops an understanding of Microsoft’s product portfolio, strategic priorities, competitive position, gaps, and potential opportunities. 

Drives evaluation of Microsoft strategic alternatives (e.g., buy, build, partner) and acquisition alternatives. 

Identify and develop growth and pricing strategies with Leaders of industries, service lines and geographies related to cloud driven industry transformation. 

Work with business leaders on new market offerings, solution, and service partner ecosystems. 

Ensures product roadmap, go-to-market, integration plans, and related issues are considered. 

Operating model design for new capabilities 

Research, Analysis, & Framing: 

Conducts market-based research by collecting and interpreting information (e.g., financial statements, reports, analyses, stakeholder feedback, expert calls) including researching existing business and identifying new spaces for Microsoft 

Conducts analyses (e.g., financial modeling) of strategic and quantitative business opportunities mand leverages analyses of others to synthesize information. 

Creates initial framing for strategic questions with limited input and delivers structured output from analyses; assists junior colleagues with framing as needed. 

Problem Solving & Insight: 

Creates frameworks and methodologies to drive problem solving and insights. 

Synthesizes findings into insights across projects, including implications that inform business decisions. 

Leverages insights to develop recommendations and seeks to provide thought leadership (e.g., trend identification, implications of competitor moves) around potential future growth opportunities and strategic issues for Microsoft. 

Communication: 

Builds end-to-end storylines and creates outlines across multiple projects for junior colleagues to leverage. 

Communicates and advocates findings, insights, and recommendations to senior business leaders to facilitate discussions and decision making 

Conveys viewpoints through written documents (e.g., memos, reports) and is versatile in designing and conveying compelling presentations 

 Drives and moderates meetings including vetting of and iterating on Feedback 

Project Leadership: 

Contributes to large Strategy projects and defines and manages small projects with guidance from directors as needed 

Manages projects independently and/or in collaboration with a director. 

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business consulting, sales, sales operations, information technology (IT), account management, business development, marketing, IT field sales, or a related field 

OR equivalent experience. 

3+ years experience in Near Term Strategy (1-2 years out), Management Consulting, or Finance. 

Experience defining and/or implementing growth strategies for high technology and/or professional services companies 

Proven high-quality problem solving and outstanding analytical skills with affinity for numbers, strategic mindset, creative thinking paired with hands-on attitude. 

Experience creating business cases and economic models 

Proactive and outcome-oriented team player with a structured and independent way of working and experienced in managing projects. 

Track-record of developing easy to understand and highly impactful strategies to solve important business challenges 

Eager to learn and quickly apply new information and skills. 

Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and complex environments and experience to work across geographies and in an international, multi-cultural environment. 

Experience in working with senior business leaders. 

Masters or MBA required 

Location/Travel: You may be based anywhere in the United States, the Seattle area is preferred. You can expect limited global travel, 0 – 25%, contingent upon Covid-19 restrictions.

 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications 

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years marketing, strategy, sales, program management, project management, business planning, consulting, finance, economics, and/or partner organization experience OR equivalent experience.

The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $125,00 and $187,700. At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
