What is the opportunity?

 

The Group Risk Management adjudication team provides independent assessment of business and financial risks for individual borrowers as a 2nd Line of Defence in the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Governance. The position involves the support of many functions such as effective monitoring and control on all material Credit risks across RBC’s Commercial Lending Portfolio, as well as assessment of risks at a transactional level for each individual credit.

 

This role balances the rewards of meeting business objectives with the risk of loss to client and shareholders while following corporate compliance and policies to maintain risk exposure within the Bank’s stated risk appetite and to operate within a legal framework and in accordance with OSFI, Basel, and other regulatory requirements.

 

What will you do?

 

  • Adjudicates Commercial Markets Diversified Credit as per established processes and delegated lending authorities as part of a team servicing the Western Canadian Market.
  • Take responsibility for assigned portfolio and relationship with field partners as the face of RBC Commercial Markets Risk Management.
  • Takes intelligent credit risks consistent with the bank’s risk appetite to grow the business, knowing when to push, pivot and/or let go.
  • Sound understanding of the role of second line of defense risk governance and experience in Risk Management
  • Comprehensive understanding of RBC commercial banking, processes and lending products
  • Business and Financial Insight: applies business understanding to make sound decisions and solve problems in a team environment
  • Demonstrate commitment to team work and collaboration by coaching, mentoring and assisting colleagues to meet the needs of all clients

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

 

  • 4-7 years experience in a risk management role and undergraduate degree in risk related field
  • Sound understanding of the role of second line of defence risk governance and experience in Risk Management
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial banking and lending products
  • Business and Financial Insight: applies business understanding to make sound decisions and solve problems in a team environment
  • Requires proactive, inquisitive self-starter with experience to define and implement own oversight framework and capable of challenging the status quo

 

Nice to Have:

 

  • Masters in Finance or Risk, or MBA and/or holds CFA/FRM designation
  • Strong analytical, organizational skills and critical thinking skills to solve problems under pressure
  • Proficiency with Bank technology (Synergy, Newton etc.)
