Animal Care

Must be comfortable around and have experience with a wide variety of animals including; cats, dogs, small birds, rabbits, pigs, goats, chickens, and horses.

Must have own transport to access both Kumeu Village and Ladybug sites. 

Duty list

• Daily feeding and cleaning of animals
• Exercise dogs as required
• Administer animal medication as required
• Groom, trim nails and bath animals as required
• Weekly cleaning of animal enclosures 
• Organize vet, groomer, and farrier visits as needed
• Maintain up to date records of all animals under the care of the rest home
• Ensure animals are up to date with vaccinations and flea and worm treatments
• Maintain high levels of cleanliness to avoid disease transmission between animals and humans
• Liaise with residents and their family to ensure quality care of their pets
• Include residents in the daily care of animals as appropriate
• Bring animals indoors for regular pet therapy sessions with residents

Daily routine – approx. 4 hours 

• Starting at Kumeu Village, feed and general clean up for all animals in the hospital care area. Feed and clean up animals in the Vineyard Villa.
• Drive to the Ladybug (other premises 10 mins away), feed and clean up animals in the stables and check on the residents dogs inside.

This is a very basic outline of daily duties. On top of this there may be extra cleaning, medication to administer, vet/farrier/groomer visit planned or need to be organized, pet therapy and involving residents in the care of the animals etc.

Grounds Maintenance 

• Maintain well manicured grounds for residents, family’s and staff to enjoy.
• Must have own transport to access bother Kumeu Village and Ladybug sites. 

Duty list

• Sweep and blow driveways and paths
• Pruning ornamental gardens and pot plants 
• Knapsack herbicide application across whole site
• Hedge trimming
• Prune and shape trees as required
• Maintain courtyard (planting, sweeping, watering, disease control)
• Clean animal debris from outdoor furniture
• Maintain indoor plants
• Water gardens as required
• Manage vegetable garden 
• Hand weeding as required
• Maintain residents potted plants as required
• Manage and respond to plant disease as required
• Ensure grounds are litter free
• Operate hand tools as required including; leaf blower, knapsack, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, water blaster
