The International team currently has a permanent position available for an Analyst.  The successful candidate will report to the Manager and will be part of a high performing, and engaged team.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

Our priority is to ensure that everyone in the team has an interesting mix of work that also gives them good development stretch. The successful analyst will work across different components of the team's work programme, which includes:

  • leading the Overseas Investment Act - Forestry Review
  • stewardship of the Overseas Investment Act and monitoring implementation of recent reforms
  • advising the Minister of Finance in his governance role in international financial institutions
  • leading the Minister of Finance and Treasury's international engagements
  • providing advice on Free Trade Agreement negotiations
  • advising on financial aspects of vote foreign affairs and overseas development assistance

Working in the International team will provide an opportunity to:

  • Regularly engage with Ministers and senior leaders across the public sector
  • Hone your intellectual leadership and analytical skills in a supportive and collaborative environment. The Treasury provides significant scope to bring new ideas and analysis into policy discussions.
  • Enhance your relationship management skills collaborating with a range of agencies on international issues, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
  • Prepare yourself for a more senior role through stretch opportunities, a focus on personal development, and a range of personalised training
  • Engage with international counterparts, including potential travel as border settings allow.

The successful candidate will be working at an analyst level and should bring:

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts clearly, succinctly and with influence 
  • Critical thinking and strong analytical ability
  • Enthusiasm for developing their policy analysis skills in a new area.
  • An interest in international relations, including international economics.
  • An ability to operate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • An ability to work with others to develop solutions to complex problems
  • A generous, team-player attitude
  • Ability to hold a New Zealand Government Security Clearance
