We have a fantastic opportunity for an Advisor or Senior Advisor to join our Operational Readiness & Response team.   Lead initiatives to develop the response capability and capacity of NEMA and the emergency management sector.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand's distributed emergency management system. NEMA's primary focus is on the performance and capability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery. Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

You will play a pivotal role in providing subject matter expertise into the development, and improvement of national disaster response arrangements.  You will support communities of practice and champion response best-practice across NEMA and the emergency management sector. The role offers the opportunity to grow your professional standing and networks as you work alongside key national agencies and significant national projects. 

The position sits within the National Operations business unit who are responsible for leading the operational systems, arrangements, facilities and infrastructure for NEMA.  This is to ensure New Zealand's emergency management system is ready and able to respond effectively to civil defence emergencies.

Our ideal candidate will have the following attributes -

  • Strong relationship management skills
  • A proven track record of working in an operational response setting
  • Strive to implement best practice to ensure operational readiness across the emergency management sector.

Huanga Whaiaro | Key requirements:

  • A high level of knowledge and experience in operational response
  • Considerable experience in applying CIMS (or equivalent response framework) in an operational response environment
  • Proven ability to influence, build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
  • An ability to interpret and implement recommendations from lessons management processes
  • A high degree of resilience coupled with a responsive, proactive and pragmatic approach.

Whakaritenga Haumaru | Security Requirements

Due to the security requirements of this role, applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident.
