Job Description

These junior administrative roles are located all around Australia, as we are hiring for all 151 federal electoral divisions with around 300+ jobs available nationally. These roles will be located across a variety of locations, including all major Australian cities and many regional areas. Work environments will vary with location, but range from small offices, larger regional working units, busy state offices and warehouse environments.

You will be working alongside other administration assistants to complete work important to maintaining our democratic processes, including helping manage the electoral roll and assisting with planning for elections and electoral events. This work includes administration, data entry, planning, office support and public engagement tasks.

There is no prior work experience requirement for these roles if you believe you have the ability to thrive in a fast paced but rewarding generalist office role. We strongly encourage students and people from diverse backgrounds to apply.

To excel you’ll have some or all of the following:

  • Customer service skills, with the ability to be friendly and helpful to internal AEC staff, members of the public, and other external stakeholders
  • Ability to complete data entry and administrative tasks, with good attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team and cooperate with others to complete tasks and minor projects
  • Organisational skills, with the ability to plan your work activities and manage multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to carefully follow established processes and procedures
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to respond to emails from a variety of customers and stakeholders
  • Basic computer literacy with experience in using MS office programs; any MS excel proficiency will be highly regarded

Eligibility

• AEC employees must be Australian citizens.

• Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.

• Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain a character clearance.

• Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain the security clearance required for this role.

• Applicants are required to meet the conditions of the AEC’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy which outlines that all AEC staff must have received their recommended primary (general population) dosage of any Approved Vaccine at that time, or have an exemption approved by an AEC Delegate. Currently, primary doses means you have had two doses of an approved vaccine. However if you are required under state or territory guidelines to have a booster vaccination to perform particular duties, you will be required to have additional dose(s) when eligible. The Federal Government recommendations on primary doses may change over time and the recommendations of that time will apply as the AEC definition.
